Where is Love? New original music by Randy Sloan
Ahh.. Love. The subject of countless songs. To the list, I humbly add yet another. ‘Where Is Love?‘ For those lucky enough to have it, to truly be in love, the answer is clear… It’s magical, it surrounds you, consumes you. For the rest of us hoping to find it, love can be an elusive, fickle and sometimes cruel ghost. And yet, despite the dead-ends, false starts and empty promises, still we search. It’s what we do, we are human and humans need ‘love.’
This song, music that I humbly feel is perhaps the best I’ve ever written, was composed recently during a time of ups and downs, extreme highs and deep lows. When deciding what to name it, I listened intently to what the music was telling me; wistful, hopeful and yet tinged with a certain melancholy sadness, it reminded me of the promise, the search, the hope and the frustration, of finding love… As hard and elusive as that can be. For those of you who find yourself in deep, rewarding and satisfying love, complimenti! For the rest of us who continue our search, until that magical moment happens we have music. There is always… music. This song is for you.

More meditative musical musings from the man cave.
Lately it seems as if music has been ‘falling out of me’ which, for anyone involved in the creative arts knows, is a very nice problem to have!
Similar in style and mood as some of the other original music posted here, kāmaguṇa is another page from my musical ‘sketchbook’. I hope that it brings you a sense of calm and peace. Oh, and if you should doze off while listening, I won’t be offended. In this case, that’s the idea!
kāmaguṇa — a Buddhist term which means:
Strings of sensuality. The objects of the five physical senses: visible objects, sounds, aromas, flavors, and tactile sensations. Usually refers to sense experiences that, like the strings (guṇa) of a lute when plucked, give rise to pleasurable feelings (vedanā).
Strings of sensuality… I like that.

A hip hotel, crisp sheets, a lazy weekend morning. Rain streaks the window as music… This music, fills the air. A look, a smile, a lingering touch. Sunday mornings with… You.

Crying Blue Rain | by Randy Sloan | 2011
As days grow shorter and the air becomes crisp with brightly colored leaves covering the ground, I find myself dipping my ‘musical paintbrush’ into shades of blue.

A bordo dell’oceano | by Randy Sloan | 2011
Music… It has been the one ongoing constant in a life defined by starts and stops, ups and downs. It is the love affair that will not die and for that I am forever grateful. For many years now I have served two masters, creating images for print and web consumption by day and attempting, in my own feeble way, to paint pictures with sounds through the guitar by night. As thankful as I am to be able to make my living as a graphic designer, it is the creation of music and comfort and joy I derive from it that has always had my heart.
A bordo dell’oceano, which when translated means - At the ocean’s edge in Italian, was originally started in 2009 during a time of tremendous loss and upheaval in my personal life. Yet as so often seems to happen during the creative process, over the ensuing two years while refining the music, it became less about loss and pain and more of a cathartic, healing process. Now when I hear the song, to me it represents and expresses hope, letting go and believing again, however tentatively, in ‘second chances.’ Such is the power, mystery and beauty of music and I honestly don’t know where I would be without it in my life.
Much more to come…
I hope that you will enjoy this music as much as I did creating it. A bordo dell’oceano represents the first of many compositions I will be posting to this site… Ultimately making them available for purchase and download. Until then, please feel free to share this song if it moves you by clicking the share button in the player above and passing along the link. As always, thank you so very much for your support of this blog. The growing interest and increase in readership so far has been humbling and beyond gratifying.

Hypnotic sound that reaches deep within my soul!
So beautiful and soulful!
Thank you.
Dahn
Music has got me through a few bad times too. I could alomst put words in as I felt them in the rhythm. You did a good job with your website. I got right in and the music played well. Usually I give up before I get to hear much of the music or see the video with the archaic system I have. I’m impressed and glad to see you have been successful artistically, in more ways than one.4 minutes ago b7 Like.
