Say hello to Sweet Pea, a 550-square-foot slice of floating heaven.

One of the great things about writing a blog is that you are constantly discovering and unearthing cool topics and projects to write about and share with your readership. How this amazing project by Affordable Floating Homes flew under my radar I will never know— especially since it is located right in my old stomping grounds of Olympia, WA!

“Affordable Floating Homes mission is to provide small footprint high quality inter urban living at an affordable price without developing more land.”

That’s the mission statement of Mike Auderer, the brains behind the new company, Affordable Floating Homes. And the images you are viewing represent the maiden voyage, (pun intended), of his new venture. Sweet Pea is a 550-square-foot, two-story floating structure that’s certified under the Built Green program, with a three-star rating.

Besides the fact that Sweet Pea resides on the water, which I LOVE, what really amazes me is how beautifully executed the interior space is. It’s as if they’ve dropped a stylish, big city condo on the water and called it good. The only difference is that instead of waking to the roar and never-ending din of honking horns and inner-city chaos, on the Sweet Pea, you can throw open your doors to a gentle marine breeze, the sound of gulls and the morning sun sparkling on the water. Ahhh… Sign me up!

At an estimated retail cost of $150,000 for a turnkey model, for many soon-to-be lucky ex-landlubbers, this floating fantasy may indeed become reality.
